A new IRS report can show tax compliance without sharing a full transcript
Why this matters
If you are asked to prove federal tax compliance for a job, loan, government benefit, or another service, the IRS now offers a report that shows less tax-return detail than a transcript and includes digital authentication.
Who may be affected
People who are asked to provide proof of federal tax compliance, and organizations that receive that proof, may have a new option instead of asking for or sharing a full tax transcript.
What changed
On August 20, 2026, the IRS announced a digitally authenticated Tax Compliance Report available through Individual Online Account. The report shows federal tax-compliance information without displaying income, dependents, or filing status. The original downloaded PDF includes an IRS-issued digital certificate that a recipient can use to check authenticity.
What to check
Use the IRS Tax Compliance Report page and Individual Online Account for current instructions. Share the original downloaded PDF when digital authentication matters; the IRS says a screenshot, scanned copy, or file recreated with Print to PDF is not the digitally authenticated document.
