Direct Delivery of School Transcripts

What direct delivery means for school transcripts and why delivery method is separate from whether a transcript is official or unofficial.

Direct delivery describes how a school record moves from the school or record service to another organization. It is separate from the academic content of the transcript and separate from the broader question of whether a transcript is considered official.

Direct delivery and official transcripts

Many schools, employers, licensing bodies, and evaluators distinguish between a transcript sent directly by the school or an authorized record service and a copy handled by the student. The exact acceptance rule belongs to the organization using the record.

Electronic and paper delivery

Direct delivery can be electronic or physical. Secure electronic transcript systems, institutional email, sealed envelopes, and postal delivery can all appear in education-record processes, but they are not interchangeable in every context.

Delivery does not change the record itself

A delivery method can affect how the record is treated, but it does not change the courses, grades, degree information, or other academic content in the underlying transcript.
